Telecommunication networks are exposed to Electromagnetic Interference from natural sources such as lightning and its effects. Therefore all connected telecommunications systems require reliable protection. The HILO-TEST Surge Generators / Simulators are specifically designed for EMC testing of telecommunications systems in accordance with ITU-T: K17, K12, K20, K22, K44, IEC 61000-4-05 and IEC 60060-2, VDE 0847, FCC Part 68 and Belcore GR-1089

The front-chopped-wave generator IPG 506 is used for measuring DC spark-over voltage and impulse spark-over voltage of over-voltage protectors according to CCITT / ITU-T, K12. $C spark-over voltage: A linearly rising voltage, rate of rise 100 V/s up to 637.5 V, is connected to the device under test. The spark-over voltage measured is shown in the display.

Testing two-gap over-voltage protectors the generator delivers simultaneous at two outputs impulse currents adjustable up to 100 A each. The pulse forming network contains a high pulse-fidelity current viewing resistor for measurement of the output current amplitude and waveform with a scope.
